Pat Cummins Expected to Feature a Significant Contribution in Ashes Series
Pat Cummins has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an impressive average.
Australia's selection chief the selector has stated that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's Ashes series.
Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might sit out due to a ongoing back issue that remained unresolved.
Earlier indications from the squad suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series kicking off on the 21st of November in Western Australia.
The selector shared that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the likelihood of participating.
"We're aware that the clock is ticking and there are permutations around that, not only his injury, but other factors as well," he commented.
"We're encouraged. [We are] really confident that he will feature a key capacity. Hopefully from the opening match. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."
Past Concerns
Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against New Zealand and India in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a stress reaction in his back.
Previous incidents include of back injuries, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of several home seasons in four years.
He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.
He mentioned that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his recovery but conceded it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the initial match.
Alternative Arrangements
If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will assume leadership.
All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.
He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."
"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to take part for the initial game as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.
"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs in any case. How he handles the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
